The European robotics landscape in numbers
Evidenced counts of robotics companies across Europe: companies per country, the core versus adjacent split, and how the numbers are produced.
This post counts the robotics companies the census can evidence in Europe. Every number below is computed from the census database at build time, so the figures on this page always match the live company pages they link to.
The headline numbers
The census currently publishes 509 robotics companies worldwide, each backed by a cited, dated source1. Of those, 92 are headquartered in Europe, which for this post means the EU 27, the United Kingdom, EFTA, the Western Balkans, Ukraine and Moldova1. That is 18.1 percent of the published census1.
The split: 22 companies are assessed core, meaning they design, build or sell robots or robotic systems, and 70 are robotics-adjacent suppliers of components, sensors, software or integration services1.
Companies per country
19 European countries have at least one published company1. Countries with three or more have a dedicated page listing every company.

How to read these numbers
These are counts of evidenced companies, not estimates of market size. The census publishes a company only when its own website or a technology tag it declared on an industry-association roster shows what it does. Its underlying datasets are the EU CORDIS open data on funded research participants23 and the public A3 member roster4, plus each company's own website.
Two consequences follow. First, the counts are floors, not totals: a European robotics company that never took EU funding and never joined A3 may not be tracked yet, and a tracked company without citable evidence is not published. Second, comparisons between countries inherit the coverage of those datasets. CORDIS covers organisations that participated in EU research programmes, so EU member states are covered more deeply than non-members. Absence from the census is never a judgment about a company; the methodology explains the rules in full.
